Thorn

Still playing with yesterday's ideas.  This image is recognisable, it's a euphorbia plant.  I was trying to copy the idea of one of the photographers we studied yesterday who makes extreme macros, with a very wide aperture so only a sliver of her subject is in focus - here the thorn at the base of a leaf.  The rest of the image becomes rather dreamy.  The problem is trying to focus when even taking a breath throws the focus off.  The tutor said that really the only way to take good macros was to use a tripod (to which I am rather resistant) as that allows you to lengthen the exposure and get your ISO down as well as helping to focus.  More work needed!
