Christmas with André Rieu

Maastricht!!
Here we go again. A weekend in Maastricht with the Christmas concert of Andre Rieu as the highlight of it all.

We arrived around noon in the city. Unfortunately the weather could be summarized in one word: rain.
Nonetheless we spent some time outside on the Christmas market on the Vrijthof and of course we had a nice lunch.

After checking in at our hotel we had a nice extensive diner and soon after that a shuttle bus took us to the venue MECC.
Inside the festivities began with a huge indoir Christmas market and music all in a Dickens atmosphere.

We took our seats (row 13, 7-10 just perfect) around 19:30 and at 20:00 sharp the show began.  When we entered the great hall we immediately spotted Wietse, and we took a selfie with him. Just like we did in July. He was very surprised again that we wanted a picture with him. If Wietse only knew....
We promised him to come back in July 24 for yet another picture.

During "I’m dreaming of a white Christmas" snow started falling over 2 rows, and it turned out we were in the middle of it. Haha. That’s was quite a lot of snow. See the extra section for photos of it. 12.000 people laughing about those 2 rows in the front…..

The show went on with Emma Kok (a 15 year old girl) singing her hit Voila and some Christmas songs. What a voice this little girl has. Impressive.

Also soprano Micaëla Oëste came on stage with a beautiful song*).
Normally soprano’s are not my cup of tea, in fact I can’t stand them for too long, but Micaëla is different. I love her voice and singing.

Just like I did back in July on the Vrijthof, I posted a story on Instagram of her, and within minutes she responded and reposted it on her account. She even started chatting for a while. That was quite a surprise. I’ve been following her for a while now, and we chatted before, but never during a show.

The show lasted until 23:00. The bus took us back to the hotel. We had a drink in the bar and fell asleep in our beds around 01:00am.
