Earthy browns (and greys, yellows and purples!)

A day off from our poolside loungers as 77 and I did a bit of sightseeing in inland Mauritius. After viewing the 278ft waterfall at Chamarel we went to have a look at this multi coloured phenomonem. Apparently its caused by leaching of various ferric and ferrous acids out of the soil.

As I am a bit of a geek when it comes to all things soil (I genuinely like looking at soil profiles and working out the various physical and chemical processes that are going on), this was all quite exciting. I think 77 was maybe less excited but appreciated it never the less. Plus there was 3 giant tortoises for us to look at as well.
