Black Sunflowers...

...and voluptuous alstroemeria. They're on their last legs , like me, so I wasn't quite ready to consign them to the green can.

We had coffee with the gang and planned our holiday get-together...a pot luck at our house next weekend. That should motivate me to finish the Christmas decorations, or just declare whatever I have already done finished. Dan is out of cast and boot and walking around in regular shoes again. He and Tobi brought Trixie who was much better behaved than Spike, consigned to the car before Trixie even arrived. He had already misbehaved before we ever left home, sneakily removing a ball of yarn from my knitting basket. I noticed that he was uncharacteristically disinterested in the remains of the foam from my latte, but didn't pay too much attention. When he was still strangely quiet with his head underneath the ottoman I investigated and found him with a ball of white yarn in his mouth. Further investigation revealed that he had wrapped strands all the way around the ottoman as well as each individual leg. I'm not sure if the fact that he was able to do this without attracting my attention attests either to his sneakiness or my complete lack of attention.

I think the knitting project, one I have abandoned and resurrected several times, might just be doomed....

I drove over to the opticians with my glasses and waited while they fitted the new lenses with a slightly stronger prescription. It's in a little strip mall with a good coffee shop but I had already had my limit of coffee so I waited on their comfy couch. Their nod to Christmas decor was several black tabletop trees that looked a bit like bottle brushes... stark for my tastes but probably pretty non-denominational....

My quilter was going to her BIngo group next door yesterday and offered to bring not one but both of the quilts she had finished. I met her at the bottom of the driveway and spent more time than I thought it would take making the binding for one of them today.  My spacial relationships were severely challenged by sewing together bias cut strips of striped fabric keeping each of the connecting seams on the same side of the strip and the stripes lined up. If this doesn't make sense don't worry. I understood the concept, but making it happen was taxing.

We had frost last night and it was still quite chilly this morning although the rain is over and the sun was brilliant. Our neighbor is coming over tonight for dinner. Her husband was here a couple of times while she was visiting grandchildren and now he is away at a his niece's bat mitzvah. She's bringing a pot of her signature curry and I'm providing rice and salad....

Thanks as always to Biker Bear for hosting the Flower Friday challenge.

It's definitely time to break into the bottle of pinot noir, my winter libation.
