Gimme shelter
I was out on the public art recording trail again this morning, taking advantage of a short-lived sunny spell.
The main shows a very small plaque for one of the items I photographed, a piece called The Map Rock. It's part of the 'Journeys to Hidden Places' art trail in the north-east of the city. This trail was created over 20 years ago, and I'm pleased to say that most of the works have survived. When I edited the image, I found a tiny visitor, perhaps seeking refuge from the damp wind. A larger image of the Map Rock is in one of the extras.
The other extra shows a second piece from the morning's trip, still in the same park - a sleeping vixen, curled up in the grass.
Listening to the BBC Radio 4 news tonight, I felt desperate. Now the talk is of "civilization breaking down" in what's left of Gaza. People crammed together, under bombardment, without shelter, food, water or sanitation. This is collective punishment on a shocking scale. Hearing that the USA will probably veto the UN Secretary-General's plea for a ceasefire - and hearing that the UK government will probably abstain - makes me feel sick and despairing.
