Here I Am . . . Mary Chapin Carpenter.
The retirement do went well with speeches from a variety of people. It was a reunion of a lot of former staff who of course came just to farewell Wendy. For all the ups and downs of teaching we were a tight staff who developed genuine relationships. I was most delighted to meet a former pupil of mine who is a beginning teacher at the school. He was seven when I taught him.
After the farewell occassion at the school hall I asked Claire if she could drive down to Ohinemutu beside Lake Rotorua. I stood beside a rumbling steam vent and took this picture of the church. The extra is beside a steaming vent and I could smell the sulphur. Good memories for me.
