June Challenge - Complicated
Day 18 of TerriG's June daily challenge - Complicated
Back in March 2012 there was a daily theme of complicated, when I blipped a relatively old piece of technology.
Today, I have spent some time trying to track down a problem where mobile phones are interfering with some satellite signals, and that is complicated (even if you understand what is going on).
Last Friday we did one test for a proposed change that someone else had come up with as a solution to the problem, the test was successful - it proved that the solution wasn't going to work, and in fact made no difference what so ever. (Yes, the test was successful, it successfully proved that the proposed solution wouldn't work, saving a few thousand pounds, and a 4-6 week wait while something was specially manufactured).
All I have done today is 3 tests, which has shown that moving some equipment about 12 feet will resolve the issue, now I have to find out how much or how little of the equipment needs to move, since some really needs to be where it is so that the operators can see it!
Geek test - the problem is breakthrough at the first IF frequencies, the mobile bands overlapping the satellite first IF (950MHz - 1,950MHZ used from the LNB to the STB, and GSM1800 being 1,710MHz - 1989MHz). If you understand that, then you are a Geek, if you don't, you probably think it's complicated - and you'd be right.
