Success

This bay tree was in a poorly condition when it came to me. It was spindly and covered in scale. I trimmed out the worst, gave it a new pot and soil. And I left it out in the tiny garden, as my house is pretty dark (and darkly pretty).

Here it is a year on, putting on new lush foliage and looking generally cheerful about life. I might pop it in the greenhouse for the winter.
