Seattle Vacation: Day 1 …

... arrival.

We had an early morning flight which required a 3 AM wakeup call!  We needed to be down in the hotel lobby by 4 AM in order to catch the airport shuttle.  We made it just fine.

Getting through security wasn’t too bad … even with the added hassle of my diabetic supplies which can’t go through the metal detectors. We were at our gate with plenty of time to spare.  This is the first time we are flying with Alaska Air and I was quite impressed.  My picture is of Mt. Rainer in the forefront and Mt. Hood in the back left.

The flight was relatively smooth and we got to Seattle by 11AM Pacific time.  However, the experience at the car rental didn’t go as smoothly.  It was quite ridiculous actually.  I had booked a certain car type but the wanted to give us something else … which would have been a down grade!  But eventually we worked it all out to get the vehicle we wanted and we thought we were on our way.  But getting out of the car rental garage was another ridiculous situation.  Don’t know what was holding EVERYONE up but it took forever to get out of there.   All told we were at the rental place for an hour!

Getting to Seattle so early we knew that we wouldn’t be able to check into our hotel in Issaquah just yet but we headed that way anyway.   Once we arrived there we were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in after all! By now it was after 1 PM (4PM our time) and we were getting hungry so after checking in and bringing all our luggage to our room we headed back out to get something to eat and look around the area a little.

We drove around a bit before returning to the hotel for some rest.  After resting a little we went back out to Lake Sammamish which is only a short drive from where we are staying.  It’s a lovely lake and one we will end up spending a lot of time at in the coming week.

We were back at the hotel by 5:30 where we had supper … which was purchased earlier whilst out driving around.

More exploring to tomorrow …
