Mar menor
I woke early to rumblings of thunder and came outside to see the sun coming up behind the hill called El Leon- the lion.
In this pic you can see all the way across La Manga Club to the Mar Menor- one of the biggest coastal lagoons in Europe. It covers an area of about 135 kms and is extremely salty. It is barricaded from the Mediterranean by a strip of land about 22kms long called La Manga- the sleeve. There are a couple of channels out to the sea.
There are salt flats at one end of the Mar Menor and lots of little beaches. The water is very healing for people with skin problems like eczema (and probably lots more that I don't know about).
You can't go all the way up the strip and back to the mainland because there is no connecting bridge- the waters protected because of their ecological importance but it's a popular place for all kinds of water sports .
