Flying a Piper PA-28
About an hour after my first solo (yeah! finally!) in my Cessna 150 trainer, OK FOR, I flew with my friend Al Waning (on the right, me on the left) for about an hour in this Piper PA-28, call sign OK FLY.
What a plane! It was a great flight. The airplane is a real pleasure to fly and particularly to land - Al let me follow through on 2 takeoffs and landings with it. It's much heavier than any other plane I've flown, and the view from the cockpit at first seems more restrictive than the Cessnas and Zephyr that I've flown so far, but after a few minutes it's absolutely fine.
Coming in for a landing is really a cool feeling; you can feel how heavy the plane is; it has more a feel like an airliner on the approach than the Cessnas. You just fly it right to the ground and then make a normal flare and gently touch down. What a great plane.
