Boots on Columbus
One of my favorite summer pastimes in the city is going for walks, nice long, leisurely walks. Granted, I am not that well-traveled, and haven't spent considerable time in very many cities, but I think New York City (Manhattan, specifically) is one of the most walkable and easiest cities to navigate.
This afternoon, my son and I spent a few hours ambling around the upper west side in the environs of the Museum of Natural History, my old employer. We went by my former piano teacher's apartment building (yes, how exciting), stopped to visit the Nobel Obelisk mentioned in ArtistAnnie's journal, and ventured in and out several of the delightful boutique clothing stores that have cropped up in the neighborhood. It was very tempting to make a few pricey purchases. Dejected, however, by an utter lack of money, I prudently left the stores empty handed.
We continued blithely strolling along when I spotted an item that was within my price range -- a darling pair of perfectly polka-dotted rubber boots, abandoned next to a trash can. Had it been raining, they might have found a new home (not!).
These boots were not made for walkin'!
