Margie on video!

I did it! I made a video of Margie reading a poem, and I actually managed to upload it to Youtube, so those of you who have been wanting to hear Margie’s actual voice (and accent)—including Tivoli, who wondered what a Bronx accent sounds like—here you are!

It’s less than a minute, but sadly there is a lot of camera noise at the beginning because I don’t have an external microphone. When the camera is seeking focus, it thunders like a moth in the ear canal, but once it gets focus, it stops (thank heaven). I don’t have any idea how to edit the video, so you get an unedited, uncut, 45-second ride.

This whole video adventure is a challenge. The last time I made a video was 1995. It was S-VHS format, and I made it with a huge shoulder camera, and then I edited it in an editing suite the size of an average bedroom. Here’s what I could get with the Fujifilm on a tripod. 

We made several videos, each a different poem, but some are under copyright and I don’t have permission. I believe Uvavnuk’s poem is in public domain. It has taken me two hours to figure out how to get the video from my camera to Youtube and to make it private so only people with the link can see it. The text under the video has all the words of the poem.

I made the Blip photo after we finished making videos. By that time, the sun was setting and beaming through her windows onto the camera, so I lowered the blind behind her and turned on her reading light.
