Emotional Devastation.. away from court.
In the final game last night, the coach called an usual time out and took one of starters off the court, hugged him, told him to get his backpack and go to his parents who were waiting for him.
His parents just received a parents worst phone call that all parents dread.
His older brother who plays Volleyball for the Thompson Rivers University, was involved in a serious accident and was in hospital in a coma. A second player from Kelowna received serious back injuries, and a third player from Easter Canada was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The players car had been rammed from the rear by a speeding of control truck next to the University.
Nash’s coach has two sons playing at that university and knows the players well.
During this timeout, Nash’s coach explained to the opposing coach what had just happened. He graciously conceded the match.
Then our coach explained to the boys what had happened. Many of our players know the University players and broke down crying. It was so emotional in the gym. The spectators were stunned as we were.
Soon after, the coaches took the team to their hotel . Later that night after a team meeting, it was decided to try and regroup and play the game today which they won!
They play two games tomorrow and if they manage to win both, they will be in the final the next day.
Lots of hugs being given and I commend the coaches for the professional manner they have handled such a delicate situation.
No updates on the condition of the two young University players at this point.
The picture is Nash with a kill shot for a point!!
