Sihanoukville Station

Another transit day: we had time for breakfast before the ferry – it helps when you can see the pier from your table – but eschewed yesterday’s beef noodle soup (which was great, by the way) in favour of a potentially more speed ferry-friendly pancakes and bacon. We killed a bit of time at the port in Sihanoukville, drinking green tea latte and stocking up on train snacks at the 7-11, and then got a tuk tuk to the really quite cool but somewhat decrepit train station before getting a matching train to Kampot. It was a slightly scary journey, especially at the start, where the suburbs of Sihanoukville are built right up to the tracks and the only safety feature is the train driver leaning near-constantly on his horn. At Kampot we got a tuk tuk to our very nice hotel, built in an old cinema building, went out for a wander round town and watched the sun go down over the river before returning for dinner…
