St. Andrews Day

The Scottish Country Dance Society was formed 100 years ago by Miss Jean Milligan and Mrs Ysobel Stewart, and had its first meeting in the Atheneum in Glasgow in 1923.  It became the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in 1951, the late Queen being an enthusiast.

There are now branches of the RSCDS in many parts of the world, and it is a recognised dance discipline, separate from ceilidh dancing.

I first was taught to dance at Girl Guides in the early '50's, and have danced with some breaks for child caring etc. over the years..... and I am still dancing, although not with the 'bounce' of earlier days.

Today our group performed some demo dances for our church Good Companions, and it was well received and all had a good time.  We danced some very easy dances; Hooper's Jig, Maxwell's Rant, The Paisley Weavers, Postie's Jig, and Mairi's Wedding, and had a few round the floor dances with the audience joining in.
