Doorway

Have had a fabulous but exhausting day today, took lots of photos, and took a while to decide which one to blip. Slept better last night than on the first night, so woke up more refreshed. Had a leisurely breakfast. Then drove down to Abereiddy beach. It's a fascinating beach. With it's sand, pebbles and rib like protrusions of shale going into the sea. It has crumbling remains of houses that used to house many of the workers that mined the slate (mostly called Phillips or Jones apparently). On the beach I found some more Graptolite fossils to take home. The doorway in the picture is one the remaining parts of one of the houses as you climb the hill going towards the blue lagoon. The blue lagoon is a pit created by the slate mining, which then flooded when the mining finished.
After lunch back at the cottage we went for a circular walk, which took us 3hr 40min. I was pooped! We walked to the coastal path then along the coastal path to Abercastle. It was a dry day today, but no sun. At Abercastle you double back slightly then divert through fields. In the fields is an impressive Neolithic burial chamber called Carreg Sampson. The last half mile was the toughest, not because of the terrain, but simply because I was so tired. A good day though. Sun eventually came out in the evening!
