Bibury and the yellow car

Late in the afternoon we visited Bibury, the village which William Morris and many others have judged to be the most beautiful village in England. These cottages in Arlington Row were built as a monastery wool store in 1380. In the seventeenth century they were turned into weavers' cottages. They are still private dwellings (except for the one that is a holiday rental), and are now owned by the National Trust.

A few years ago Bibury hit the headlines because of a yellow car.  It belonged to a resident of Arlington Row, who habitually parked it outside his cottage. He had little choice - the weavers' cottages didn't have garages - but it spoiled tourists' photos. The yellow car was vandalised and subsequently written off. The community rallied round, literally, with a yellow car rally on April Fools' Day, and helped the owner buy a grey replacement car.

It's on Google so it must be true.
