It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a red-bellied woodpecker. The cold temperatures and suet bring them in closer where we can observe them • In case you’ve forgotten woodpeckers have unusually long tongues, reaching lengths up to 3x longer than their beaks! Their tongues coil around inside of their heads when not in use and protect their brains from aggressive pecking • I look forward to sharing the first tongue shot of the season :)) • Some wrapping got done today, and I started writing up messages for the Advent Calendar.
