Almost there
The exceptional rainfall in this area on the 7th off October resulted in a bridge at Balliemore at the top of Loch Striven being condemned. The only alternative road to Dunoon (which is via Strachur) adds an extra 20 miles each way to the journey, which is why the local community in Cowal and on Bute has been so keen to get a temporary bridge in place.
The Council reacted promptly to the emergency but the task of putting the Bailey bridge in place has taken more time than predicted, in part owing to high winds in the last week .
However we are now told that the road will be re-openend on Friday 1st December and as today I had to go as far as the bridge to pick someone up for the St Andrew's Day lunch in the Gelndaruel Village Hall, I took the opportunity of recording the work in progress which does indeed look as if it is nearly there.
My extra photos also show the hole in the bridge , caused by the foundations moving, which is why it now will have to be demolished and rebuilt.
