A great spotted woodpecker takes flight
I don't know why the woody took flight at this point as several other birds had tried to feed there at the same time, but became scared off. But I'm glad it did as I could record its underwing feather patterns.
This bird seems to be visiting to feed every day and consumes a lot of seeds. It even visits the other feeder to eat the suet pellets. It is also foraging on the branches of the pussy willow tree, searching for insects, and pecking at the bark. I'm wondering if it is trying to find the bugs under the bark as I photographed one doing a year or so ago. I must watch carefully.
