Cornus capitata

It’s Mountain Moon dogwood. I’m sure I’ve shown the tree in full flower, just dripping with white blossoms, and now it’s heavy with these strawberry-like fruits, which, as far as I can figure, are not edible by man or beast. With all the creatures sampling from our harvests, not one tooth mark has ever been left on these golf-ball size beauties, so I’m not going to try them either. They do make for a colossal mess all around the tree, but they are certainly a show stopper in the neighborhood.
