Cooling down
Have you wondered why there are so many fountains in Provence?
Every village however small has at least one. Sometimes 5 or 6.
This is a very small village, with a big fountain in the square, shaded by plane trees, and providing much needed cool water in this hot weather.
MrC and A were having a cool wash!
K and I had already put our hands and arms under the beautifully cold clear water.
Just after we got there a party of cyclists stopped to cool down too. I don't know how they can ride in such hot weather, with clear blue sky, and no shade from the suns rays, which today were the hottest ever.
We had just had lunch at Chez Claudette's. A small bar/cafe, shop and post office, in the tiny village of St Roman -de- Malegarde. Good job we had booked as the when we got there at 12.30 there were cars, vans, and tractors everywhere, and the place was full.
All the local tradesman, vineyard workers, etc. call in here for lunch every day.
Don't know how they manage to work after a 4 course lunch, and wine.
12.50 euros ( We did notice that some had coca cola instead of the wine.)
Help yourself buffet, then choice of two main courses, which change every day.
Followed by help yourself cheese board with 6 different cheeses. Then a choice of 8 desserts. We all chose mandarin ice cream. Homemade and delicious.
for photo of Claudette and details of cafe see here
On the way back we did a wine tasting at The Cave de Rasteau , and bought a few bottles of red, white and rose to have while we are down here.
Will be back later to buy some to bring home.
Down here they do slightly chill the red wine in summer, as it looses the fruity flavour if it is too hot.
Feel much better after a swim in the pool, and a lie down!
Tomorrow we aren't going to eat at lunch time, and have a BBQ in the evening instead!
I can feel the inches piling on!!
Hope all is well with you all.
