Timber!!

As I was eating breakfast, I looked out the window and saw the tree fall. Dan hadn't told me he was going to cut it down. His chainsaws didn't work yesterday so I thought we were waiting until one was fixed. He surprised me by cutting it down with an axe! Apparently, it's not as easy to gauge the fall direction when using an axe and it came down right behind one of our outbuildings. Dan measured and it was a 38 foot tall tree. It needed to be thinned to free up the other trees for growth. The whole bottom of this tree had no boughs because it was so squished in. But this 9 feet at the top is perfect. Eventually, the bottom will be used as firewood.
And now it is in and up and smells really good!  We will put lights on it tonight but that's all for a bit. The extra is the one Dan took of an unsuspecting me, next to the tree.
