Poppy
Yesterday I noticed that Adam has hardly any clothes that fit him anymore. So I told him we had to go shopping to get a few items as he was starting to look like Kevin (Kevin was the psychopathic son in 'We need to Talk about Kevin' by Lionel Shriver who only wore clothes several sizes too small for him). He refused - so I trundled off to the shops on my own, got really excited as everything was on sale and bought some items. Of course when I got home with the new clothes, nothing fitted, as he had grown even more than I had realised.
So today, amongst my usual busy Monday morning I rushed back to the shops to exchange everything - my husband could not understand why I had to go today when I was already busy with other stuff - he does not know what sales are like, all the good stuff will disappear in a day or two and if I did not exchange it today, there would be nothing left to exchange it for. I was in that shop that teenagers frequent, you know the one that is so dark you cannot see the price, colour or size and it smells of that sickly sweet perfume. You think you are buying a red T shirt in size M but when you get home you see it is actually pink and size S - aaargh!! Anyway, I managed to successfully exchange the items.
On the way home from the school run I realised I had not had any time to take a photo - I remembered this beautiful patch of large, orange poppies growing outside someone's house. So there I was. stopped on the side of the road, Thomas getting embarrassed as his school friends were driving past thinking 'What is Thomas' mum doing kneeling amongst some plants outside a stranger's house?' The poppies were almost over and more scraggly than they had been last week , but they were such a vibrant orange that I wanted to capture that colour.
