And For My Next Trick

In the course of our excavations at Ingleman Towers we were aware of 'excess moisture' and crumbling ground around the front of the garage. We aim to block pave this area but needed to understand why there was subsidence and wetness.

And to nobody's surprise we discovered two obvious reasons for this problem.

In the first image we have an electrical earth spike, intended to ground any electricity in the event of a fault or surge. Or something. (I don't fully understand it..) But whoever installed the device very succintly drilled and hammered the spike right through the drain pipe.

In the second image we can see two sections of drain pipe, with a gap of about 8mm. Not joined, not connected. Just, well kind of getting to know each other.

These issues can be and will be easily fixed. But had we not investigated this problem it would have worsened in time. Faulty drains lead to houses sliding downhill and disappearing into the distance, so I have heard.

This has been the most 'interesting' house we have ever owned.

I think Jack built it...
