At Donna Nook nature reserve

Each year, in November and December, a large number of grey seals come to this stretch of Lincolnshire coast to give birth to pups.  It's a couple hours' drive from here. Today, good weather and free time coincided, so I went for a visit.
The drive wasn't easy, facing the low winter sun (thank goodness there was some sunshine though, after many damp and grey weeks).
The nature reserve has great vantage points, with a path running close to where many of the seals are.  There were many lovely moments, as newborn pups suckled or started to explore their sandy, grassy environment.
It's a place of contrasts, full of hints about us as a species, not just about  the seals.  A secure fence is in place, preventing human visitors from disturbing the seals or trying to touch them.  And in one of the extras you can see some structures in the distance: these are part of the kit for the military firing range that is still active in this area during other parts of the year.
