And pilot who forgot their sandwiches
A beautiful crisp day here, frost in the hollows and barely a breeze, with peak autumn colours. Phutzed around taking down tomato and bean sticks. Seems an age since I put them up after a wet spring. Brought the last green tomatoes in with green chillies and a few small bonus squash that grew when the rain fell in October.
I fretted about the humanitarian pause and whether it would happen, half worrying my phone to death. Good to see hostages released and women and children released from prison. I know people - Oxfam- say the pause is too short, a sticking plaster on a bloody wound. But it is something and it is not merciless bombardment. And maybe, just maybe, it can be built on and extended and become a way of spiking the guns on both sides. I can only hope that it continues for the four days and humanitarian aid is kept up, even if it is not at the pre-conflict level. And then maybe extended for another four days. Small steps, I know, but after the horror of these last 45 (?) days …
