The New Scottish Wing of the National Gallery
I was meeting up with friends this morning to view the new wing of the National Gallery which is devoted to Scottish Painters. Many of the paintings have been in storage for years so are seeing the light of day for the first time. Actually the light in the gallery is amazing as the architect has managed to include natural lighting from windows all the way along the wing. The building is on a slope and this has been used to create a series of open rooms at different heights as you walk along the wing.
I was struck by this painting of William Crozier.which is a view of Edinburgh from Salisbury Crozier which is almost cubist in style as the sides of the buildings are differentiated by the side light falling on them.
