Fresh as Daisy

I nearly trod on this little fellow as it was sitting outside on the front doorstep this morning. What it lacked in size it certainly made up for with it's striking metallic green colourings.

The other main feature which made it stand out and that was hugely noticeable was the size of it's thighs which were massive and bulbous which only the males have. The larvae live in the stems of flowers and it feeds on pollen. Lucky him then as I popped him on a daisy to get a shot or two, which he really loved.

Had a great afternoon at Symonds Yat on the River Wye in the Forest of Dean today in spite of the drizzle. Initially I was looking for the peregrine falcons which nest there but nothing was flying in the rain unfortunately.

We saw quite a bit of drama on the river with a kayaking accident! You could tell just by watching the girl that she wasn't going to make it down the rapids. She did overturn, was ok but ..........I bet the water was freezing! These pictures are in the last link.

Ended up in a very picturesque 16th century pub on the riverside and had a fantastic supper with some friends there which was a lovely end to the day.
