Shift
We were tired this morning! Decided to have a slow start, and sat in bed with tea and word puzzles til nearly 10 before having some breakfast and then getting the tube up to Oxford Circus. We browsed through Liberty’s (where we bumped into Dan Snow) and then found a place for some dumplings and noodles which was quick and tasty before heading over to the Portrait Gallery and spending a couple of hours exploring the paintings and photographs. Very interesting, and I sent the photo of Ann Boleyn to AR who’s very interested in the Tudors. We had a welcome pot of tea at St Martin’s in the Fields before walking through Piccadilly Circus and up Regent St with all its illuminated angels lit up. Popped into Hamleys but the best thing there were the elf dancers giving it their all outside the shop to tinny Christmas music. The lead dancer was obviously musical theatre trained!
Had a delicious and very filling pre-theatre supper in Soho then went round to the Prince Edward Theatre to watch Dear England. Brilliant production….and swung between laughter and sadness in telling the Ted Lasso type story of Gareth Southgate’s management term with the England men’s football team. Joseph Fiennes fabulous in the lead role, and a very clever set and direction. We really enjoyed it, even though I know nothing about football!
Quickly home on tube…such a change from trekking back to MK on the last train. We had some peppermint tea and chatted before bed since we were a bit too hyped to go straight to bed!
