Adventure

Picked up this little book when I visited the local swimming pool of all places. The 13 - 19th November is Book Week Scotland and the Scottish Book Trust distribute 70,000 free copies of the above book to various places.
The Trust encourages you to read the book, share the stories and pass on the book.
Some of the stories written by various people are moving or funny.
The very first story tells of Elizabeth’s first outing at the age of seventeen to a disco in Glasgow with her friends.
She was very excited about what she would wear and how she would put on her make up. Only problem was she had a big carbuncle of an acne spot right on the tip of her nose.
She asked friends what she could do to disguise it so they told her to put layers of toothpaste on it, leave it to dry, then pile on foundation. That did the trick.
At the disco she meets handsome Hughie from Easterhouse. After a dance he steers her to a booth and buys her a Coke.
The ultraviolet lights above turn Elizabeth’s dress into what looks like an ethereal glowing robe and Hughie’s dentures look like an luminous array of tombstones when he smiles. Scenes from Dracula films flit through her mind.
Her friends come off the dance floor and when they look at Elizabeth they hand her a mirror and whisper to her she will need to do something. When Elizabeth looks in the mirror the ultraviolet light has illuminated the layers of toothpaste and makes her nose shine like a purple beacon. The young couple were bonded by their flaws.
What a laugh I had reading this story and the rest of the stories in the book.
Time to pass on the book to someone else to give them a laugh.
