Clovelly
We finally made it to Clovelly today. I've been wanting to go there for years! (And we almost made it there a couple of years ago, but we were incorporating it into a walk and Tim had a bad knee, so we had to abandon it.) Glad we went - it was lovely, and so peaceful. We ended up having quite a long chat with a nice guy there too, so it felt very friendly. (He'd gone there three years ago for an ice cream while on holiday, and now lives there and runs a shop in this street.)
The sledges in this photo are how the residents transport their shopping, etc, down the hill. The fella we chatted to told us they are then brought back up by road on the far side of the village - no uphill pulling!
We ate our sandwiches down on the harbour, then picked our way across the beach to a waterfall, and then trekked back up to the top of this hill again - which didn't feel nearly as exhausting as it looks, for some reason. I think it caught up on me later though - soooo tired by bedtime!
We also went for a quick look at Clovelly Court Gardens - nice, but pretty small, so didn't take long - then back home for a lovely cuppa.
