lady in a veil

this morning the kindly mister drove me to get my prescriptions and we popped in to see Charles at Retrospection and he had a box of wonderful and varied new slides, and i got the lot!  so i'll be posting once again on skmagicslides.

this one is probably a bride?  maybe Ottoman?  i'm sure someone on here will know.

19/11/2023 i think i have found the answer see the extra i have just added.
Lebanese/Druze - was close with my first Ottoman thought.

i wonder if this image is of the same young woman...

further info:  this is a tantoor hat worn by brides
The tantour (tantoor) is a form of cone-shaped women's headdress similar to the hennin, popular in the Levant during the nineteenth century, but seldom seen after 1850 outside of use as a folk costume.[1][2]
The tradition persisted longer in Lebanon among the Druze.[citation needed]
The tantour was held in place by ribbons tied around the head. A silk scarf was wound around the base with a white veil attached to the peak. The height and composition of the tantour were proportional to the wealth of its owner, with the most splendid tantours made of gold and reaching as high as thirty inches. Some were encrusted with gems and pearls.
The tantour was a customary gift presented to the bride by her husband on their wedding day.

this bride was a lucky lady as she was given a ridiculously tall tantoor, though i'm not sure how happy she looks.

this may have been taken by Tancrède Dumas (1830–1905) was an Italian photographer of French descent who was active in the Near East.[1][2] He learned photography in Florence and opened a studio in Beirut in 1860.[2] He was active during the period 1860-1890 and worked in albumen prints.
