Blue green algae; not good.

The blue-green colour was really pronounced in the reservoir today. This location has history of summer and early autumn cyanobacteria algal bloom; to be honest I thought it would be less by now. Environmental factors such as rain, heavy winds or cooler temperatures (we’ve had all these recently!) tend to slow bacterial growth or break up the bloom. Winds are very helpful in mixing the bacteria throughout the water body, this in turn reduces population growth. This is however the north shore and corner at the dam, it may be leading to greater concentration here.
