Sad Story.
My Dad made this.
He was an engineer to trade.
He was a model engineer par excellence.
His passion was the beautiful working steam engines he created from bits of raw steel, copper and brass.
He worked so hard at his job as an inspector in the Caterpillar factory in Uddingston near Glasgow.
His ability to work to tolerances of 1/1000th of an inch were necessary in his job, and evident in his model making.
This is one of his models - a 3 1/2 inch gauge Britannia locomotive.
It was passed on to my older brother John, when Jimmy died.
John is in hospital, and is not doing well.
He has not been well for some time.
Not taking care of himself.
Or all the things he inherited.
So I now have custody of lots of my Dad's things.
It is very sad to see them in such a poor state of repair.
I have some skills and knowldge, but nothing like the amazing skills and knowledge of my late father.
I would love to sort out / rebuild / complete these wonderful things, but doubt that I have the time, patience, skills or knowledge to complete this enormous task.
I would need to live in a shed (like my Dad) , and put every other aspect of my life on hold (like my Dad).
I suspect that my wife might not be as sympathetic to this prospect as my Mum was.
A retirement project methinks.
In moderation for sure.
