Masons Bay to Freshwater Landing
We have had a magical day!
This morning we flew to Masons Bay and landed on the beach ( main photo). When it flew away with the other 3 passengers it felt quite strange and eerie! The beach so big and we were alone.
We were fortunate the pilot could land as big seas have made the beach littered with stones and shells. ( extra)- at one stage we thought it may be an extra 2 hour walk, but fortunately we only had to walk along the beach for 30 mins before we found our route. There were large Sandhills (extra) too.
This walk is a flat one that crosses the island- about 15 km long and takes 4 hours if you don’t stop. We did stop, as we had time to. Took quite a few photos and negotiated some big puddles…but we were so fortunate with the weather - it can get extremely muddy! I did almost lose my shoe in one deep mud hole- the mud almost sucked it off me!
The scenery changes almost every hour- until we finally reached the coast again. We only saw one other person (twice)- a German walking right around the island- quite a challenging walk!
We were picked up by a water taxi and brought back to Paterson Inlet, and then we walked back over the hill to Halfmoon Bay . We had the most delicious fish n chips I’ve tasted from the Kai ( food) Cart, and then walked “home” to the place we are staying . 34,000 steps today, and all body parts coped
