It's 4 years since I first (and last) met Mikael Colville-Anderson, something of an enigma in the cycling world, perhaps best known for the 'Cycle Chic' movement. But while that topic can throw up controversy, last night's talk was on what his international consultancy works on - making cities more liveable. It just so happens that the bike has a huge role to play in that.

It was an utterly engaging hour of presentation, and a further hour of Q&A, before a group of us retired to the Bow Bar where Councillor Jim Orr took in more of what Mikael had to say. I managed to catch up with him before and to the very end as well (I'd intended on coming home for about 10pm, ended up coming in the door at about 12.45am...), and glad I did as it's a truly flying visit, arriving on Saturday around 3pm, being taken riding in a few bits of the city, then off home again at 3pm on Sunday.

Busy day all round really - I was out to the farmers market and fishmonger in the morning; then over to Fife to collect my new commuting wheels; before a stack of work in the garden; then off to the Assembly on the Mound for Mikael's talk. Sunday's not looking any quieter either...
