Tilting to the pier
Superb photo at Campbeltown of the Fairfields of Govan built steam turbine TS Marchioness of Graham circa 1950.
The tilt was a common feature at piers as passengers gathered to disembark or just to look or wave to waiting friends or relatives.
She was a popular all year Arran steamer with deck space behind the funnel for a vehicle to be winched aboard.
Diesel car ferries started with the Arran, Bute and Cowal (ABC) side loader ferries starting 1954.
So the M.of G. became redundant and was sold to Greece in 1957.
