The Grinning, Winking Oriental

I was out at the shop early doors and then into the garage to sharpen some tools and finish a Yew 'dish' ... well the turning thereof - the sanding and finishing are not finished..
The 25 or so (long) steps from the garage to the house had me soaked through ... it was monsoon proportions and had been dry when I went down to the garage.
Luckily it stopped just before Squirrel was dropped off so she was able to stay dry on her short walk to the school.

There was one food pick-up today - at the Aldi's I like going to .... they are always friendly, helpful and give loads of stuff - all of which is usable (unlike a lot of places who deem it acceptable to pass on their rotten fruit & veg and nothing else).

The change in the weather has seen SWMBO spend most of the day in bed sleeping so I spent time sanding and putting some sealer on the Yew piece, making the 'box' in the picture (that weird shaped bit of Yew has been getting moved about for ages as I failed to think of what to do with it. Finished, it stand at 7cm diameter and 4cm high ... the top being my last piece of Raspberry Jam wood). I may yet put an Ebony finial on top.

I also took pictures of the 2 dishes  I have slowly been making (they are in the extras). The first one in Sweet Chestnut Burr and the 2nd one is Burr Elm (I have no idea why the word 'Burr' gets moved about depending on species) they are 5 3/4"x2 1/2" and 6 1/4"x1 1/2"  (12cm x 3cm and 16cm x 4cm) respectively.
