The Old Man of Hoy
First thing this morning Maeve the Deerhound found out she was not coming on this holiday when we took her to the boarding kennels :-(
Back home we parked my car, got into Apothecary7's car and set off for the long journey North to Scrabster where we would get the ferry to Stromness on the Orkney mainland.
Not much navigation is needed on this trip. Once on the A9 it is more or less follow the same road all the way. We stopped at The House of Bruar for an early lunch, Inverness for Petrol, and Dornoch for coffee. We did have a walk round Dornoch and had a look inside the Cathedral where a wedding had been celebrated earlier. The bride and groom were having photos taken in a lovely garden next to the church when we arrived.
We had a little time to wander about the harbour at Scrabster, then it was time to drive aboard the MV Hamnavoe for a very comfortable crossing. The weather was dry but there were low clouds over Orkney as this shot towards the Old Man of Hoy shows.
Once we came off the ferry it was only 5 minutes to our holiday cottage. We have panoramic views from the cottage over both Stenness loch and out over the bay of Ireland to Scapa Flow. From the driveway we can see acroos to Hoy too :-)
