Happy Diwali!
Today is Diwali (festival of lights). I wish you all lot of light, success and happiness in your lives.
I spent the morning craving for Rasmalai and decided to make it at home. Realising that I don’t have pistachios and cashews, and I had only seem them yesterday during my stroll to Waitrose. I walked to there and bought it. I had also noted in my excitement, I reached there at 8:45 when the shop opens at 9 am. So, I had to go to Caffe Nero to scroll on my phone.
Came back and made the rasmalai, but unfortunately it did not turn out well. I’ll probably make a cake out of it with nuts and saffron milk.
Next, I showered and left for the Edinburgh Gurudwara where I went to pray. I also ate at the langar. I walked around Leith for a bit before catching a bus for home.
I came home and rested for a while, and left for Dishoom dinner with Max and Maya at 5:45. I was surprised that there was not a queue. Maya and Max later came at 6:40 with Ruth (Maya’s friend). I had a great time with them chatting about a lot of things. I also handed Max and Maya their Diwali presents. And following the dinner, they walked me back to my place (whilst they kindly walked with their bikes).
This is the first Diwali that I have not been with my family and I have felt empty the entire day. The vibe and energy of my father yelling, my mother crying and my sister and I doing all the work is different. I miss them. However, I also recall on this day last year, I started this blog after my father’s abuse. I have become a stranger to them since then.
