Hanging Out

A mallard and heron hanging out together behind the fallen willow. In the next frame the heron flew off, but there was too much in the way to photograph it. 

The duck didn't seem bothered, until a nice man in a short kayak decided to treat the fallen trees as an obstacle course and paddled his way through, disturbing all the birds.

On his way back he asked whether I got any good photos, to which I replied no as he had scared off the ducks. He answered, oh well they'll come back.

Actually the mallard hadn't flown off, but had paddled towards me and off into the reeds. I suspect he was reluctant because his partner was somewhere about. I had seen the two of them on a previous day.
