She was sitting on the porch railing this morning and showed no inclination to move no matter how close to her I got. I think she was cold. I noticed the two amber spots on her front legs, but never would have guessed that they are eyes! Maybe because of my own currently disabling knee issues, I just looked at her legs and assumed there was something wrong with her. They are also unique for holding their leafy patterned wings over their bodies like a roof.
I did go for a short walk with Spike and John this morning but turned around at the end of our road instead of toiling uphill. John took a bit of a scary turn last night, losing his balance and being a bit incoherent. Despite going to bed very early, I didn't sleep much which seems to excerbate the structural issues, especially the knee. John seemed quite fine this morning, although when I asked if he was back to normal , his reply was, 'What's normal?' Good question.
I did finish the backing for Dana's quilt which was quite uncomplicated other than wrangling all that fabric. I told Dana that it would probably have some dog hair integrated into it. Reminds me of the quote I read somewhere that said dog owners are people who view pet fur as a condiment! I think I'm going to put away the sewing machine and take up knitting for awhile....perhaps until I get a new knee and can stand up more easily.
This may be the last of the unseasonably warm dog days of summer. A storm is predicted to move through the Bay Area starting on Tuesday. I pleased to say that nobody has suggested naming every storm that rolls through, although it is supposed to be another el Niño winter with a lot of rain. Undoubtedly some of the rain will warm rains from Hawaii. They've taken to calling these storms 'atmospheric rivers' and numbering their predicted severity, but I still fancy the less technical name of 'Pineapple Express'.
Sunday supper at Jim and Dana's tonight. I'm thinking I may need a nap before we go, although it's not something I usually do.
