Grandfather

A man I never met despite having overlapped by at least 20 years.
A long story but one that stays in the family.
He was in the Navy from 1901 until 1919 when he was demobbed, then 4 years on the reserve list
 but because war service didn’t count towards his entitlement he didn’t get a pension when discharged.
I’ve still to really follow his ships and dates of service but I have found he was in the Cressy when she was torpedoed with two other cruisers in September1914. There were less than 400 survivors from the 1500 men in the three ships. That was when they were saying it will all be over by Christmas……
