Beds!

Set off early down to the Lake District to visit Mum. It was a bit of a risk as the forecast said it was to be showery and the windscreen wipers are extremely temperamental at the moment.

Last time I had it in the garage they couldn't get them to 'not work' so couldn't fix them.

We got to about an hour away and the heavens opened and the wipers chose this moment not to work at all. Thankfully we could pull off the motorway at some services that were right there so rode out the shower until is eased a bit then started off again. After that it was on off rain all the way. We kept pulling into laybys but it got to the point that we had no alternative but to keep going in the rain. Eventually got there - phew.

A lovely afternoon chatting with mum followed. We were discussing her move back up to Edinburgh and it could be as soon as 3 or 4 weeks.

It was dry all afternoon, OH checked the weather forecast on his phone and it seemed to imply no more rain for the rest of the day so we felt quite relaxed about the home journey.
Left after tea and within half an hour we were stuck in a torrential shower, so bad there was no way we could continue. We limped off a wee turn off as we couldn't see anything and ended up in some random driveway.
Again it eventually eased and we set off again and basically there was a window of about 3/4 hour in the whole 5 hour journey where it didn't rain.
I got very proificient driving barely being able to see anything. I just had to focus on the white lines on either side of the motorway lane and concentrate on keeping going. It was highly stressful and exhausting.
We stopped at every service station so I could rest and de-stress a bit and whenever it got so bad we couldn't see at all we had to pull onto the hard shoulder and wait a bit.
The journey which I can normally do in just over 3 hours took 5 and a half and I was so exhausted and so relieved when we made it home.

Windscreen wipers- very over rated bits of kit - It is possible to do without although I wouldn't recommend it :)

This photo is of the beds in the gardens at the care home my Mum stays in. The colours in the beds were amazing.

We certainly needed our bed that night!
