Typhoon hits Oban

Awoke to a light frost  - the first this winter, I think. It turned into a beautifully sunny day! I had intended to join the Healthy Options Friday walk, but to mark the centenary of the building of Oban's War Memorial there was to be a flypast of two Typhoons from RAF Lossiemouth at 11am and I wanted to see them.

Mrs M and I walked down to the harbour in good time and at 11am they flew past. Disappointingly far away - this picture was taken at 300mm and blown up three times. Somebody said that one of them was to do a vertical flight on afterburners, but they disappeared from sight and that was it. I believe that they did a low-level pass over the Oban airfield at Connel on their way home.

As it was such a good day we drove up to the the Castle Stalker View café at Appin for lunch, but since the change of ownership last year the menu is decidedly short - a mere six items. Maybe just a coffee stop next time. A pity as the view is the best anywhere.

On the way home it began to rain but fortunately not for long, so I had another go at the leafmould heap this afternoon and moved a few more barrow loads!
