National scenery

In the evening we visited Haralanharju sightseeing tower in Kangasala. Sami also climbed to the tower, I don't know how many dog would do it.

The first sightseeing tower was build to Haralanharju in 1890's but it burned down in 1922. The second tower was there during years 1932-2007 until it was burned down by a local pyromaniac in January 2007. A new beautiful tower was opened in summer 2009. The tower is 20 meters high with a stunning view which is said to be one of the national sceneries of Finland.

Zacharias Topelius visited lieutenant-colonel Aminoff's farm near Haralanvuori (1853) and he became fond with the views from the Harjula's ridge There he wrote the famous poem "A Summer's Day in Kangasala" . Later Gabriel Linsén composed a melody for the poem. From 1995 that melody has been the provincial hymn of Pirkanmaa region.

Zacharias Topelius (1818 - 1898) was a Finland-Swedish journalist, historian and author and later a rector of the Helsinki University. He wrote Finnish historical novels in Swedish. His writings, plays, poems and historical novels became national property.
