The Fascination Game: Only Time

The day included errands in town, the acquisition of a couple of bargains, a very nice, but messy, coast-to-coast cheesesteak for lunch (sorry, but the Subway app we tried first didn't work, wouldn't let us order the buy-one-get-one-free footlong), and a hike at Buffalo Run Park on the way home.

At the park, there is a wooden bridge I like to stand on to take pictures of the water surface. The currents and the reflections are often fascinating there, and I know I am easily amused, but I can stand and watch for a long while, totally content, just looking at the water, snapping away on my camera.

I made a number of water abstracts, and this one actually has a name that it was born with, and that is this: Only Time. The autumn leaves have fallen and they are at the bottom of the water; the current caresses them there. It may be a beautiful sunny November afternoon, but I know that winter is coming. Sooner than you think, there will be snow and ice here.

But today the water runs smooth, and it reflects blue sky, and there are green mossy things in there too, and rocks and all manner of interesting stuff, and even tiny creatures. The song that goes with this image is Enya's Only Time, with some of its lyrics included below.

Who can say why your heart sighs
As your love flies, only time
And who can say why your heart cries
When your love lies, only time

P.S. A word about grief, which has its own season, and comes and goes in waves, both large and small. When the Great Big Darkness That Lives at the Edges of Everything tries to swallow you whole, walk to water. That's my only advice.
