The ocean
Moody sky at the beach today.
On Saturday a huge Sperm Whale beached in the shallows right here.
An unusual event for this part of the coast but it does happen in other parts of NZ fairly often.
Usually they are old or unwell when this happens, very sad.
We have ocean conservation groups who are specialists at dealing with this situation and they swing into action and try to refloat the whales if possible.
Sadly this whale didn’t survive and has now been buried in the sand dunes.
Not an easy task, lots of heavy machinery and special procedures needed.
